Have you ever heard the the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words”? Well I have three letters that changed my life: PMA. I want to share with you why I have these three letters tattoo’d on my body.
Five years ago I dabbled in one of Napoleon Hill’s books called “Think and Grow Rich” but I felt it was a bit beyond my interest at that point in life. I only checked it out because you get your first book free when you sign up for Amazon Audio Books but I wasn’t ready to listen to anything this guy had to say. Two years later around I read a book called “Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude”. The examples given in the book are a bit outdated but the concept is the same. Its all about keeping a positive outlook on all life situations to improve your health, wealth and overall happiness. Sounds easy right?… It took me a few days to read the book but years of applying the strategies into my daily routine for it to fully work.
On April 8th 2016 I cycled 243 KM from Pakse Laos to Savannakhet in 13 hours. Thats 150 miles! On my bicycle. By myself. In a country I’ve been in for three days. That morning I wrote three letters on my hand PMA. I think previously my longest ride was around 130km and my legs felt like warm jello after that ride. So, I positioned the letters perfectly so I can see them in between my sun covers for my arms and my gloves. I literally looked at those letters every 20 minutes and said to myself “hey you mo-fo! You keep going, you can do this. You are on the right path!” By time night fall my legs felt like avocado mouse pudding. I 100% believe that I was able to push myself to the absolute limit because of PMA. Cycling 243KM was hands down the most challenging thing I have ever done physically and mentally in my entire life. I am actually getting a little emotional just typing this. Reminds me of the time I climbed Bokor Mountain Kampot (2,000+ km total elevation) as I looked out into the open land. I felt like a hero. Sounds weird I know but you’d have to experience it to understand.
Now, I know if I never cycled a day in my life I would need more then PMA to crush a 243km bike ride. So like I strengthen my muscles with practice I do the same with my courage and as happy as I am I still need help sometimes. There is very little difference between people but that little difference is big. I used the PMA strategy one day at a time, one meal at a time and did something that scared the shit outta me. What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?
